Pools in The Villages: Family, Adult and Sports Pools, Who Can Swim Where, and the Rules Guests Need to Know
In a place where the water is warm most of the year, the pool you can reach in five minutes shapes your days more than almost any other amenity. The Villages runs three kinds of resident pools with different ages, guest rules and purposes, and the difference matters once family comes to visit or you want to swim laps at 7 a.m.

What are the different pools in The Villages and who can use them?
The Villages has three types of resident pools. Sports pools are for residents 30 and older and host lap swimming and water exercise. Family pools welcome residents and guests of every age. Adult pools are quiet and limited to ages 30 and up. As of October 2026, the developer lists 126 of them.
The short version
- The developer's pool pages list 73 adult pools, 40 family pools and 13 sports pools, 126 in all, as of October 2026.
- Sports pools are residents only, ages 30 and up, open 7 a.m. to dusk. Family and adult pools open at 7:30 a.m.
- Guests from outside Lake, Sumter and Marion counties need a Guest ID from age 1; the online application says it lasts 30 days from arrival.
- The District aims to keep pool water between 81 and 84 degrees and heats pools in cooler months.
- Country club pools follow a separate policy and are reserved for country club priority members and their guests.
What kinds of pools are there in The Villages?
Three kinds of resident pools, each with a different job. Sports pools at the regional complexes host lap swimming, water exercise and volleyball. Family pools at select recreation centers welcome every age. Adult pools at neighborhood areas are quiet and for ages 30 and up. Country clubs run separate pools for their own members.
The District of The Villages, the local government that runs resident recreation, and the developer's website describe the same three pool types. The side by side below is the fastest way to see which one fits a given afternoon.
| Type | Listed locations | Where | Who may swim | Hours | What happens there |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sports pools | 13 | Regional complexes | Residents only, 30 and older | 7 a.m. to dusk | Scheduled lap swim, combo swim, water exercise, water volleyball |
| Family pools | 40 | Select recreation centers | Residents and registered guests, all ages | 7:30 a.m. to dusk | No scheduled activities; noodles, goggles and toy buckets welcome |
| Adult pools | 73 | Neighborhood recreation areas | Residents and registered guests, 30 and older | 7:30 a.m. to dusk | No scheduled activities; lounging, sun and conversation |
The practical upshot: if you want a quiet float, the adult pool near home is the default. If you swim laps or like a class, you are heading to a sports pool. If younger visitors are in town, it is a family pool, because they are the only resident pools open to every age.

How many pools does The Villages have, and where are they?
The developer's three pool pages list 126 resident pools as of October 2026: 73 adult pools, 40 family pools and 13 sports pools. Adult pools are spread through neighborhood areas, family pools sit at select recreation centers, and sports pools anchor the regional complexes. Country club pools are counted separately.
Adult pools outnumber the other two types combined. Family and sports pools are fewer, so where they sit is worth checking against any address you are considering.
The 13 sports pools
Colony Cottage, Eisenhower, Everglades, Ezell, La Hacienda, Lake Miona, Laurel Manor, Mulberry Grove, Olympia, Rohan, Savannah, SeaBreeze, Spanish Moss.
One caution: the sports pools page's own slider counts 14 slides while naming 13 locations, so one entry may be missing from the list as published.
The 40 family pools
Allamanda, Aviary, Bacall, Big Cypress, Blanchard, Bradenton, Bridgeport, Burnsed, Canal Street, Captiva, Cattail, Chatham, Churchill Street, Clarendon, Coconut Cove, Cordoba, Creekside Landing, El Santiago, Fenney, First Responders, Fish Hawk, Franklin, Hibiscus, Homestead, Lake Shore Cottages, Manatee, Moyer, Mustang, Odell, Paradise, Phillips, Pimlico, Rio Grande, Riverbend, Saluki, St. Tropez, Sterling Heights, Trillium, Truman, Water Lily.
Blanchard is the newest on that list. Its recreation center at 1512 Craig Court in the Eastport area opened in March 2026 with a family pool, a game room and pickleball, according to the developer.
The 73 adult pools
The full list runs from Alden Bungalows to Winifred and is on the developer's Adult Pools page. For how the neighborhood, village and regional tiers fit together, with addresses, see our guide to recreation centers in The Villages.

Who can use the sports pools, and what happens there?
Sports pools are for residents of The Villages ages 30 and older, with no guests. The District lists them open daily from 7 a.m. to dusk, which its guidelines define as 30 minutes after sunset. Days are scheduled in blocks: lap swim, combo swim with lanes plus open water, water exercise and water volleyball.
The sports pools are the working pools of the community. The District's sports pool guidelines flyer lays out how they run:
- Lap lanes are for laps. Lap swimmers have priority in marked lanes and are expected to share a lane when all are in use.
- Combo swim keeps lap lanes open alongside an open area for water walking and general exercise.
- Water exercise sessions are drop-in and led by resident volunteers. They start on the hour or half hour and run no longer than 50 minutes.
- Water volleyball has skill levels, some with sign-up. The flyer lists training on Fridays at 3 p.m. at Colony Cottage and on the first Thursday of the month at 11 a.m. at Ezell.
- Paperwork. Anyone joining an organized water activity needs a signed activity release for the current year.
The guidelines split the year into two seasons, Fall/Winter from October 1 to March 31 and Spring/Summer from April 1 to September 30, and the weekly schedule is posted in the District's Recreation and Parks publication and on recreation center bulletin boards. One trap: a sports pool schedule PDF still linked on the District site carries 2019 dates, so do not plan around it.
Residents may also rent select sports pools for a private party on Sunday afternoons. The pools named are Mulberry Grove, SeaBreeze and Everglades, booked through Recreation at 352-674-1800.

Can visiting family, including children, swim in The Villages?
Yes, at family pools. Guests from outside Lake, Sumter and Marion counties need a Guest ID from age 1, and the online application says it is valid for 30 days from arrival. Guests 30 and older may also use adult pools. Sports pools are residents only, and guests under 19 must be accompanied.
Here is the sequence that matters when family is coming:
- Request the Guest ID before they arrive. The resident applies online through the developer's Guest ID application (it asks for your Resident ID and PIN) or in person at a District customer service office or recreation center desk.
- Mind the weekend cutoff. The District says passes requested after 11 a.m. on a Saturday are not ready for pickup until Monday morning.
- Pick it up where it is convenient. The District lists pickup at recreation centers including Colony Cottage, Eisenhower, Everglades, Ezell, Fenney, La Hacienda, Lake Miona, Laurel Manor, Mulberry Grove, Olympia, Rohan, Savannah and SeaBreeze, plus its offices.
- Swim at a family pool. Guests under 19 must be with a Villages resident or another guest. For children 36 months and younger, the District asks for protective swim products.
What may go in the water differs by pool. At family pools the District allows noodles, unbreakable masks, goggles and small plastic buckets, approved life vests, and infant and toddler flotation devices with an adult supervising. At adult pools the list shrinks to noodles, unbreakable masks and goggles.
Not published: the District pages we read on October 29, 2026, do not state a Guest ID fee or a limit per household, and the full ID policy page returned an error. Ask at any At Your Service desk before you count on a figure.

What are the pool hours and rules in The Villages?
Family and adult pools open at 7:30 a.m. and sports pools at 7 a.m., all closing at dusk, as of October 2026. The District's pool pages mention no lifeguards and say to swim at your own risk. Bring your original Villages ID plus a photo ID. No glass, no pets, and no food or drink at the water's edge.
| Topic | What the District says |
|---|---|
| ID | Original Villages ID or Guest ID, plus photo ID, at every facility |
| Supervision | Swim at your own risk; a courtesy phone is at every pool; dial 911 in an emergency |
| Before you swim | Shower first; appropriate swimwear required |
| Food and drink | Not allowed in the pool or on the surrounding edge; no glass containers |
| Music | Headphones or earbuds rather than speakers |
| Pets | Not allowed in the pool area |
| Smoking | Only in designated areas outside the pool area |
| Lightning | Find shelter and wait at least 30 minutes before going back in |
| Severe weather | The Recreation Department may close facilities during storm warnings |
Sports pools also keep an AED in the equipment closet, according to the District's guidelines.

Are the pools in The Villages heated, and are they accessible?
Yes, within a range. The District aims to keep water between 81 and 84 degrees and heats the pools in cooler months. If a pool falls below 81, a sign goes up and the pool stays open. The developer's pool pages say aquatic access lifts are available at all recreation-supported swimming pools.
That temperature target is why pool time does not stop in January. On a cold morning, the posted sign is your cue that the water is running cooler than usual.
For accessibility, the lifts are listed on all three of the developer's pool pages, and individual recreation center pages such as Rohan and Blanchard also list an assistance lift among their services. If you rely on one, call the center before your first visit to confirm it is in service that day.

How are country club pools different from resident pools?
Country club pools follow a separate policy published by the developer and are reserved for country club priority members and their guests. All are family pools. Pool ambassadors are on hand but are not lifeguards, guests need guest passes and photo ID, and the jacuzzis are limited to ages 16 and older.
A home's address gives you the District pools. Country club pool access comes through a country club membership instead, so it is a separate question to ask about any home. The policy sheet adds a few rules of its own:
- No outside food, drinks or personal coolers in the pool area.
- Guests under 19 must be with an adult; children 36 months and younger wear protective pants.
- Guests on an in-area guest pass must be with their host resident.
- Lounge chairs and tables are first come, first served and cannot be reserved.
- Pools close for inclement weather, and every pool has a courtesy phone.
The sheet does not name the clubs with pools or list hours. Golf and Country Club can be reached at 352-753-3396, the number printed on it.

Which pools in The Villages are closing for maintenance this November?
As of October 28, 2026, the District's closure feed lists quarterly maintenance at the Pine Ridge and Pine Hills adult pools on November 4, the Charlotte adult pool on November 13 and the Moyer family pool on November 19. La Hacienda's sports pool closes for pressure washing November 10, 7 a.m. to noon.
| Date | Pool | Type | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wednesday, November 4 | Pine Ridge | Adult | Quarterly maintenance |
| Wednesday, November 4 | Pine Hills | Adult | Quarterly maintenance |
| Tuesday, November 10, 7 a.m. to noon | La Hacienda | Sports | Pressure washing |
| Friday, November 13 | Charlotte | Adult | Quarterly maintenance |
| Thursday, November 19 | Moyer | Family | Quarterly maintenance |
The same feed also shows quarterly maintenance posts for the Bridgeport, Churchill Street and Canal Street family pools and a separate La Hacienda maintenance post; we did not confirm their dates, so check the feed before heading out. Every post notes the schedule can shift with the weather.
The habit worth forming: glance at the District's closure posts before a trip to a pool you do not visit every day.

The local take
I was born and raised in Marion County, and I represent buyers independently. Pools come up early in almost every conversation about The Villages, and the useful question is never whether there is a pool nearby. With 126 resident pools, there almost always is. The useful question is which kind.
Match the pool to your routine. A daily lap swimmer lives by the sports pool schedule, and there are only about a dozen sports pools, all at the regional complexes. Ten minutes by cart each way is a habit. Thirty minutes each way usually is not. Our Village Finder helps narrow the map to the anchors you will actually use.
Think about who visits. If family with children comes often, the nearest family pool matters more than the nearest adult pool, because guests under 30 cannot use adult or sports pools. That one detail can move a shortlist.
Next door is a trade-off. A home backing onto a recreation area is convenient, but it also sees the parking, the morning arrivals and the activity that comes with it. I would visit at 8 a.m. and again mid-afternoon before deciding how close is close enough.
Check what the monthly cost includes. The District lists no per-visit charge for resident pools; country club pool access depends on membership. Run the full number for a specific home on our cost of living calculator, and browse by section in the village directory.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to bring ID to swim at a Villages pool?
Yes. The District asks everyone to carry an original Villages Resident ID or Guest ID plus a photo ID at every pool, and its sports pool guidelines say only original IDs are accepted at the recreation centers. Copies and photos on a phone are not mentioned as acceptable, so keep the cards in your pool bag.
How old do you have to be to use an adult pool in The Villages?
Thirty. The District lists adult pools for residents and guests ages 30 and over, and sports pools for residents 30 and over. Family pools have no minimum age, which is why they are the place to swim with younger visitors.
Can I rent a pool in The Villages for a private party?
Residents can rent select sports pools for private pool parties on Sunday afternoons, according to the District. The pools named are Mulberry Grove, SeaBreeze and Everglades. Call the Recreation Department at 352-674-1800 for availability and terms, which the District page does not list.
Where do I find this week's water aerobics and lap swim times?
The District points residents to its weekly Recreation and Parks publication, linked from its Pools page, and to recreation center bulletin boards. Avoid the older sports pool schedule PDF still on the District site, which carries 2019 dates.
Is there a per-visit charge to use the resident pools?
The District's Pools page lists no per-visit charge for residents. Guest ID fees were not shown on the District pages we read in October 2026, so confirm any cost for visitors at an At Your Service desk before they arrive.
